Jaouad MourtadaSince September 2020, I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Statistics at ENSAE/CREST. Prior to that, I was a postdoctoral researcher at the Laboratory for Computational and Statistical Learning within the Machine Learning Genoa Center at the University of Genoa, where I worked with Lorenzo Rosasco. I did my Ph.D. in the Center for Applied Mathematics (CMAP) at École Polytechnique, where I was supervised by Stéphane Gaïffas and Erwan Scornet. My research interests are at the intersection of statistics and learning theory. I am particularly interested in understanding the hardness of prediction tasks, and the ability of various procedures to exploit problem-dependent regularities. Specific problems and methods I have studied include sequential prediction/online learning, Random forest methods, as well as density estimation with an emphasis on linear and logistic models.
